Backa, often called Hisings Backa, is a district on Hisingen in northern Gothenburg, about four kilometres from the centre. It became part of the City of Gothenburg in 1948, so it is not a separate municipality. Many people live in neighbourhoods such as Brunnsbo, Skälltorp, Backadalen and the newly built Selma stad.

The local hub is Selma Lagerlöfs Torg. In recent years it has been completely rebuilt with a shopping centre, district offices, a library and a health centre, and it works as a local meeting place and public transport hub. Getting to a clinic from Backa

Backa is one of the few larger Gothenburg districts without trams, but buses run often. Lines 18, 19, 40 and X4 serve Selma Lagerlöfs Torg and Brunnsbo and continue towards Backaplan, Brunnsparken and central Gothenburg. The trip into the city usually takes around 15–20 minutes, depending on the line and time of day.

A confirmed appointment in the centre is often faster than waiting for a time to open up closer to home.

Evenings and weekends

Most private clinics in Backa keep normal weekday hours. Emergency care in the evening and at weekends is mostly handled by emergency clinics and by clinics that keep a few emergency times open. It changes from day to day, and we give no opening hours we have not checked with the clinic.

• Weekday evening: send your enquiry as early as you can.
• Weekend: expect that a time may be in central Gothenburg, even if you live in another area.
• Night: no regular dental care is open. With fever, or difficulty breathing or swallowing: go to an emergency department or call 112.

What does emergency dental care cost?

The clinic sets the price, not Tandakut Nu, and it depends on what the dentist needs to do. We publish no prices for individual clinics in Backa — only the general ranges for private emergency dental care in Sweden.

• X-ray: from about 80 SEK per image (reference price 2026) – private clinics often charge more
• Treatment: from about 1 000 SEK and up, depending on what is done

You have the right to a written cost estimate before treatment starts. You pay the clinic directly. If you are covered by the Swedish dental subsidy system, the general dental allowance (ATB) and high-cost protection also apply to emergency care.
