Emergency dental care on Hisingen
Hisingen is the largest district in Gothenburg. It stretches from Lundby, Brämaregården and Kvillebäcken in the east to Eriksberg, Lindholmen and Lundbystrand along the river. This page is mainly for you if you live or work north of the river and want emergency dental care without crossing the bridge for nothing.
Many people work at Lindholmen and Eriksberg, so dental problems often start in the middle of the working day or on the way home. During office hours, a clinic on Hisingen is usually both the closest and the fastest option. People from Backa, Torslanda, Biskopsgården, Wieselgrensplatsen and Kärra look for care either north of the river or in central Gothenburg, depending on where an appointment is actually available. Torslanda and Kärra are furthest out and have the longest travel time in both directions.
Emergency or regular visit? An emergency appointment is right when it can't wait: severe pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or a filling that has come out and hurts. For a check-up, a planned filling, tartar removal or a new dentist, a regular appointment is almost always cheaper and easier to get. Tandakut Nu only handles enquiries about acute problems. We don't book appointments. For a regular appointment, contact a clinic directly or contact Folktandvården directly.
Tandakut Nu only works with private clinics and never refers to Folktandvården. If you are looking for Folktandvården, contact Folktandvården Västra Götaland directly.
Getting to a clinic from Hisingen
Trams 5, 6 and 10 stop at Wieselgrensplatsen, Vågmästareplatsen and Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen. Hisingen is well connected via both Hisingsbron and Tingstadstunneln.
Emergency appointments run out quickly, especially in the afternoon, in the evening and at weekends. No clinic on Hisingen has emergency opening hours, so a problem that starts in the evening or at a weekend is in practice handled in the city. Nordstan and central Gothenburg are both about ten minutes away over Götaälvbron or through Tingstadstunneln. That is often faster than waiting for the next local opening.
The practical choice is rarely the closest clinic. It is the first confirmed appointment. Sometimes that means a clinic in central Gothenburg instead of on Hisingen, especially in the evening and at weekends. If you are driving, Frölunda can also be an option.
When do you need emergency dental care?
These are the problems that make people in Hisingen look for emergency dental care instead of waiting for a regular appointment:
- toothache that keeps you awake or makes it hard to eat
- a swollen tooth or swollen gums
- a suspected infection, pus or pressure
- a knocked-out tooth after a fall, blow or accident
- a lost filling or crown that hurts
- a cracked or broken tooth
- bleeding from the gums that does not stop
- a wisdom tooth that swells or makes it hard to open your mouth
Get care straight away — do not wait for a dental appointment — if you have fever together with swelling, swelling that grows fast or spreads towards the eye or neck, or difficulty swallowing, opening your mouth or breathing. Go to an emergency department, or call 112 for life-threatening symptoms.
How Tandakut Nu works
Tandakut Nu is a Swedish referral service. We pass your contact on to a private clinic if we can help you. We do not book anything on your behalf.
- You choose an area and a preferred time, and leave your contact details and a short description for the dentist. No personal identity number.
- We review enquiries during office hours (weekdays) and call you if we can help.
- If you say yes on the phone, the clinic gets your details and confirms the time with you. The clinic is responsible for examination, diagnosis, treatment and price.
The service is free for you as a patient. We can't guarantee that an appointment is available — the clinics decide that, not us. Many dentists in Gothenburg speak English, but we can't promise it for a specific clinic.
Evenings and weekends
Most private clinics in Hisingen keep normal weekday hours. Emergency care in the evening and at weekends is mostly handled by emergency clinics and by clinics that keep a few emergency times open. It changes from day to day, and we give no opening hours we have not checked with the clinic.
- Weekday evening: send your enquiry as early as you can.
- Weekend: expect that a time may be in central Gothenburg, even if you live in another area.
- Night: no regular dental care is open. With fever, or difficulty breathing or swallowing: go to an emergency department or call 112.
What does emergency dental care cost?
The clinic sets the price, not Tandakut Nu, and it depends on what the dentist needs to do. We publish no prices for individual clinics in Hisingen — only the general ranges for private emergency dental care in Sweden.
- Emergency examination: usually 500–1 200 SEK
- X-ray: from about 80 SEK per image (reference price 2026) – private clinics often charge more
- Treatment: from about 1 000 SEK and up, depending on what is done
You have the right to a written cost estimate before treatment starts. You pay the clinic directly. If you are covered by the Swedish dental subsidy system, the general dental allowance (ATB) and high-cost protection also apply to emergency care. You don't need a Swedish personal number to send an enquiry.

Questions about emergency dental care in Hisingen
Is there an emergency dentist open in the evening or at the weekend on Hisingen?
No dental clinic on Hisingen has emergency opening in the evenings or at weekends. Out-of-hours emergency dental care is in practice handled in central Gothenburg, and there is much less on offer than on weekdays. We don't publish opening hours we haven't checked with the clinic. With fever, fast-growing swelling or difficulty swallowing, go to an emergency department, or call 112 for life-threatening symptoms.
Is there a walk-in dentist on Hisingen?
Very few private clinics in the Gothenburg area offer real walk-in for emergencies, and we don't publish walk-in times we haven't checked with the clinic. Assume you need to contact the clinic first, even if the sign says "emergency".
Is there an emergency dentist near Backaplan, Lindholmen or Eriksberg?
There are private dental clinics around Backaplan, Kvillebäcken and Lundby. Lindholmen and Eriksberg are along the river on southern Hisingen, and central Gothenburg is very close from there. Tandakut Nu has no connected clinic right now. Send an enquiry and we call you during office hours (weekdays) if we can help. Choose the clinic that can give you a confirmed appointment first, not the one closest on the map.
Should I choose Hisingen or the city centre?
If you are already on Hisingen, a local appointment is often the easiest. If appointments run out, Centrum or Nordstan can be good alternatives, because public transport across the river runs often.
Do I have to be registered with a clinic on Hisingen?
No. You can usually get emergency dental care even if you are not a regular patient at the clinic.
Do clinics on Hisingen speak English?
Many dentists in Gothenburg speak English, but we can't promise it for a specific clinic. Write "English" in your enquiry and we will take it into account if we can help you.
Editorial note
This page is general guidance, not a medical assessment. A dentist always decides what applies in your case. In a life-threatening emergency, call 112.
